Planning a New Year's Eve Party in Chandigarh

New Year's Eve falls on Thursday 31 December this year, and New Year's Day on the Friday. For anyone who can take that Friday off, the night becomes the start of a long weekend, and a table for a group that runs past midnight is one of the harder bookings of the year. If you are the one organising, the decisions that shape the night get made weeks earlier: where you go, how many of you there are, and whether the group stays in one room or tries to move between three.

Decide what kind of night it is

Most New Year's Eve plans take one of two shapes. One is dinner somewhere, then a move to a bar for midnight. The other is a single venue for the whole night, from the first drink to past midnight. The first sounds flexible and usually costs the best hour of the evening, because getting a group of eight out of one place and into another after eleven on the busiest night of the year is slow, and half the table ends up in a cab at midnight.

A bar and lounge with a full kitchen removes the need to move. Seville's food menu covers Continental, Italian and Mediterranean plates, a Sushi and Asian section and a full Pasta and Pizza menu, so a group can eat, drink and see the year out without anyone leaving the table. The whole list is on the Seville menu.

What to look for in a New Year's Eve venue

Four things decide whether a venue works for a group on the night.

The hours. Midnight is the point of the night, so the venue has to stay open comfortably past it. Ask what time it closes on 31 December specifically, since hours on the night can differ from the rest of the year.

Whether the group stays together. A table of twelve split across two corners of a busy room makes for a thinner night. Ask whether the venue can seat your whole group as one block.

The drinks. A long night runs to several rounds, and a bar that makes its own drinks keeps a table interested far longer than a list of standard highballs.

The room. Somewhere you can sit back in for four or five hours, with the light low enough that the photos at midnight look like a party.

What a night at Seville looks like

Seville is a bar and lounge at SCO 17 in Sector 26, and its regular hours run from 11am to 1am every day of the week. On an ordinary night that puts midnight inside the evening with an hour to spare. For 31 December, confirm the timings when you book.

The room is low-lit and built around a long bar with a bottle wall behind it, and the seating is the kind you sink into. Seville takes large groups without splitting them across the floor, which is the first thing to settle for a New Year's table. If you are choosing between a busy bar and a slower evening, our guide to lounge evenings in Chandigarh sets out the difference.

The bar makes its own cordials, and the cocktail list is the bar team's own work. Peppers & Symphony pairs a bell-pepper gin with peach cordial and tonic, Gentleman in Green runs cardamom and clove bourbon against a betel cordial, and Smoke de Seville takes bourbon through apple, cinnamon and rosemary. Blushing Crystal, Earthy Elder, A Good Thyme and Golden Amber sit alongside them. A table working through that list over five hours has something new to try with every round, and our guide to craft cocktails in Chandigarh covers how to order well from it.

Seville is listed on Google as a live music bar and has hosted booked sets, including a Mehfil-e-Sahib evening in June. There is no fixed weekly slot, so if live music matters to your night, ask whether anything is planned for 31 December before you book. Our piece on live music in Chandigarh explains how those nights come together.

Booking for a large group

Some New Year's Eve tables are big: a group of colleagues, two families together, a circle of friends that has grown to fifteen. The planning is the same as for any large booking. Get a real headcount, tell the venue the number you expect to walk in, and settle how the bar will be billed before the night begins. Our guide to choosing a corporate party venue in Chandigarh goes through those questions in order.

A question worth answering

Does Seville have a New Year's Eve party in Chandigarh?

Ask when you book. If anything is planned for the night, the venue will tell you when you send the enquiry. The standing cocktail and food menus run every night. Seville holds a 4.8 rating on Google across more than 1,450 reviews and a 4.5 on Zomato.

Before you book

Message on WhatsApp with the headcount and roughly when the group plans to arrive. If people will come in over the first hour, say so up front so the whole table is held. A large table for 31 December is easier to hold the further ahead you ask, so send the message early. For the space itself and what a regular evening there looks like, see the Seville page.
